Biography Nancy Day was born and raised in Edmonton, where winters are often long and harsh. Spring's promise of new life and summer's fulfillment has always held a fascination and joy for Nancy. She began painting the subjects that expressed the marvelous phenomenon of growth and nature's capacity for rejuvenation. Through an almost spiritual immersion in her environment, Nancy expresses her respect and captivation with the proliferation of nature. In her representational work, she explores this theme through patterns and shapes of color, intermingled with line and gestural qualities. Her verdant landscapes, which often reflect the rich foliage of her adopted west coast home, and her exuberant free-flowing florals, burst with the energy of nature freed. In her most recent paintings Nancy is working on a beautifully textured surface, simplifying her images to express earth's dynamic rhythms . She portrays natures' forces with energy and marvelous radiance. Nancy has enhanced a natural talent and an enduring interest with extensive formal training; she has attended a variety of art classes given by such facilities as the Edmonton Art Gallery and the Department of Extension at the University of Alberta. In 1985, she attended the inaugural year at the Lester B. Pearson International Summer School of the Arts on the west coast. Nancy’s formal training has culminated in a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree which she received from the University of Alberta in the spring of 1987 after four years of full-time study. Nancy’s work is extensively held in a variety of corporate collections including Alberta Government Telephones, Amoco, Steiner Corporate Art, CIBC, the Royal Bank, and Hitachi Canada. She exhibits on a regular basis, and her work is strongly represented by galleries in western Canada. Nancy now lives in Nanaimo, B.C. and works full-time as an artist.
